How to Reach Alwar

Most tourists in love with Rajasthan’s history visit dusty Alwar to explore the City Palace and museum. Alwar’s traces its roots way back to 1500 B.C. making it one of the oldest Rajasthani kingdoms. Alwar’s came to prominence when Pratap Singh defended the kingdom against the invading Marathas in the 18th century. He was also responsible for keeping the armies of Jaipur and Bharatpur at bay. Alwar was one of the first Rajput princely states who forged ties with the British colonists, though they did not always see eye to eye on political matters.

Since the regular tourist crowd steer clear of Alwar, you can enjoy the city’s attractions without jostling for space. Peace and quiet are your best friends as you bask in Alwar’s rich history. Alwar’s kaleidoscopic bazaars are an experience of a lifetime. if you’re visiting in November you’ll be lucky to experience Alwar Utsav, a festival celebrating the culture of the region.

The Fairy Queen is said to be the oldest locomotive in the world constructed in 1855 and Alwar is its final destination after it leaves New Delhi. An apt final halt in the City of Rajputs.
